When the Dust settles (2024) invites you to engage in artmaking that goes beyond the aesthetics of commercial paint and into the tactile explorations through paint making. This showcase brings together a collection of artworks by artist and paintmaker Shirin Rafie, from Wild Dot, exploring the inherent qualities and potential customizability of working with handmade paints.
Through the inherent qualities of charcoal and earth pigment, she wishes to showcase the versatility and expressive qualities of these material and investigate how these paint pigments can interact and meet with each other through the technical control of pigment sizes.
About the Artist
Shirin is an artist, educator, and co-founder of Wild Dot. Her interest lies in sharing experiences about found and cultivated plants in Singapore through art and pigment making, as well as curating meaningful, creative experiences with nature through an artistic approach. Her practice lies in the investigation of natural material, and exploring the possibilities of working with their inherent properties. She is keen in exploring the question of how such creative processes can be a way to learn and reflect about our relationship with our environments and with each other.
