Print Triathlon – A One-Day Printmaking Workshop

Overview

Curious about printmaking but not sure where to begin? Join our Print Triathlon — a full-day, immersive workshop where you’ll experience three distinct printmaking techniques in one day. Choose to attend one, two, or go all in for the complete triathlon.

Each session introduces a unique approach to image-making, from painterly monotypes to delicate drypoints and bold linocuts. This is a great way to try different print methods before diving deeper into any one.

Workshop Schedule & Session Details

Date: 24 May 2025 (Saturday)
Time: 11am – 7pm (with breaks between sessions)
Location: Drawing Etc. Art Supplies & Creative Space
Skill Level: Beginner-friendly, no experience needed
Group Size: Small, hands-on sessions with guided support

🕚 11am–1pm: Monotype
Create vibrant, one-of-a-kind prints by painting and drawing directly onto a smooth plate. You'll explore additive and subtractive mark-making, layering textures, and playing with color — all printed using our etching press.
What you'll learn:

• How to ink and manipulate a monotype plate
• Ghost printing and overprinting techniques
• Embrace spontaneity and unexpected results
• Press operation and printing tips

🕑 2–4pm: Drypoint
Discover the magic of intaglio printing. You’ll etch your image into a plastic or metal plate using a sharp tool, then ink and print it by hand. Drypoint is known for its fine lines, rich textures, and beautiful inky depth.
What you'll learn:

• How to compose and scratch a drypoint plate
• Inking, wiping, and printing with pressure
• Understanding burr and line variation
• Best practices for handling plates and paper

🕔 5–7pm: Linocut
End the day with bold graphic prints made from carved linoleum. You'll design and carve your block, learning to balance positive and negative space, then ink and print by hand.
What you'll learn:

• Safe carving techniques and tool handling
• Planning a strong composition in black-and-white
• Inking and hand-burnishing for consistent results
• Tips for printing editions
