Join us for a two-day intensive woodcut printmaking workshop with renowned artist Zhang Fuming. This workshop focuses on the creation of figurative portraits using the traditional black and white woodcut technique.
In his sessions, participants will have the opportunity to delve into Fuming's artistic process, learning techniques and approaches to woodcut printmaking. Through hands-on instruction and insightful discussions, Fuming will guide students in exploring the expressive potential of the medium, encouraging experimentation and creative discovery.

What to Expect:

  • Open to All Levels: Whether you're new to printmaking or an experienced artist, this workshop will teach you the fundamentals of woodcut printmaking and help you refine your skills.
  • Techniques: Learn how to create and carve a woodcut block, mix and apply ink, and print your images onto paper.
  • Lesson breakdown:
    • Day 1. Introduction to woodcut printmaking. Watch a demonstration by Zhang Fuming on how to carve a simple figurative portrait into a woodblock.
    • Hands-on Session: Carve your own woodblock under Zhang Fuming's guidance, focusing on composition and design.
    • Day 2. Printing your woodcut. Learn how to ink and print your woodblock to create striking black and white prints.
  • Community Connection: Connect with like-minded individuals and immerse yourself in the rich history of woodcut printmaking.

    • Wood blocks for Carving (A3 & A4 Size)
    • Carving Tools
    • Printing Ink (In-Session use)

    • Printing Barens / Wooden Spoon (In-Session use)
  • Reference Image: The Artist will be sending you an email upon signup to guide you on suitable reference materials for your work. Participants are encouraged to work with their own original image.
